Cowboys Star Marshawn Kneeland Dies at 24: A Tragic Loss

Marshawn Kneeland, a promising professional football player for the Dallas Cowboys, tragically passed away at the age of 24 on November 6, 2024, amidst the 2025 NFL season. A second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after playing at Western Michigan University, Kneeland had quickly made his mark as a defensive end. During his tenure with the Cowboys, he played 18 games, accumulating 26 tackles and one sack. Just days before his death, he showcased his talent in a Monday Night Football game against the Arizona Cardinals, famously recovering a blocked punt in the second quarter that directly led to a touchdown for his team. Authorities later confirmed that Kneeland died by suicide following a police chase in Frisco, Texas. The incident began on the evening of November 5 when Texas Department of Public Safety troopers attempted a traffic stop. Kneeland, the driver, refused to stop, leading to a pursuit. After losing sight of his vehicle, authorities found it abandoned following a crash. Police, utilizing K-9 and drone units, located Kneeland deceased at approximately 1:31 a.m. on November 6 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Earlier, Plano Police had responded to a welfare concern at an address associated with Kneeland but were unable to make contact, preceding the tragic events.
