King Charles Moves to Strip Prince Andrew’s Last Military Title

King Charles has initiated a formal process to strip his brother, Prince Andrew, of his final remaining military title, the honorary vice admiral position, following years of scandal. This move, confirmed by Defense Secretary John Healey, signals the monarchy's continued effort to distance itself from Andrew's controversial past. The decision comes after Andrew, 65, voluntarily relinquished his royal titles and honors in October, changing his name to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

Consequently, Andrew can no longer use titles such as Duke of York, Knight of the Garter (KG), Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh, or Andrew Inverness. Furthermore, Buckingham Palace has served formal notice for Andrew to surrender his lease on Royal Lodge in Windsor, necessitating his relocation to private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary despite Andrew's continued denial of allegations against him, with the Palace expressing sympathy for victims of abuse.

The need for these actions stems from Prince Andrew's long-standing association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He was named in a 2016 civil lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged Epstein trafficked her for sex with Andrew on multiple occasions. Although Andrew consistently denied these claims, he settled the case out of court in 2022 for an undisclosed sum. His public royal role ended in 2019 after a widely criticized BBC interview discussing his relationship with Epstein.

More recently, the release of Giuffre's posthumous memoir, “Nobody’s Girl,” which offered further insights into her alleged experiences, intensified calls for accountability. A Buckingham Palace source indicated that the “very serious and grave concern” of these new allegations warrants a thorough investigation. The removal of titles and privileges serves to protect the integrity of the monarchy and address public concerns regarding royal conduct, particularly in light of such severe accusations.
