John Wayne Gacy: Crimes, Series, and Systemic Failures Explored

The new Peacock true crime series, “Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy,” meticulously documents the heinous crimes and life of the infamous serial killer. John Wayne Gacy, a notorious figure, was responsible for the murders of 33 young men, aged 14 to 21, in the Des Moines, Illinois, area. His reign of terror concluded with his arrest in December 1978, followed by a conviction in 1980, and ultimately, his execution by lethal injection in 1994.

Despite a seemingly normal middle-class upbringing, Gacy was reportedly raised by an abusive, alcoholic father. His personal life included a 1964 marriage to Marlynn Myers, during which he managed a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise. Notably, Gacy had a prior conviction in 1968 for sexually assaulting a male employee, serving a portion of a ten-year sentence before being released early for good behavior.
