Eva LaRue & Daughter Reveal 12-Year Stalking Ordeal
Actress Eva LaRue and her daughter, Kaya Callahan, are sharing their harrowing 12-year stalking ordeal in the new Paramount+ docuseries, “My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story,” premiering November 13. The series delves into the terrifying experience that began during LaRue's peak fame on CSI: Miami, when she received a chilling letter signed “Freddie Krueger.” This marked the start of a prolonged nightmare characterized by grotesque threats, violent fantasies, and a relentless, faceless stalker who targeted both LaRue and her young daughter.
Initially dismissing the hate mail as a twisted prank, LaRue grew increasingly alarmed as the messages escalated, including ominous declarations like, “I am going to instill fear into every part of your life.” The situation became profoundly more terrifying when the stalker began directing these “heinous, deplorable, sickening, most terrifying threats” towards Kaya, who was just five years old at the time. Despite installing security cameras and relocating three times, the menacing letters persisted for over a decade. LaRue made efforts to shield Kaya from the full extent of the threats, a decision that meant Kaya would later experience the details of the stalking “for the very first time” while participating in the docuseries. The threats intensified over the years, culminating in the stalker discovering Kaya's high school in 2019.
The protracted ordeal finally concluded in 2019 when DNA evidence from one of the letters led to the identification and arrest of James David Rogers. Rogers subsequently pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges in 2022 and was sentenced to 40 months in prison. For Kaya, this resolution brought immense relief, allowing her to “live a normal life again.” LaRue’s primary motivation for publicly sharing their story is to advocate for other victims, emphasizing that stalking is not exclusive to celebrities and can affect anyone through social media. Through their experience, LaRue hopes to offer support and “instill some hope” for others facing similar nightmarish situations.
Eva LaRue and her daughter bravely opened up about their 12-year nightmare in a pop culture stalking ordeal that highlights the grave consequences of celebrity obsession.
