Drunken Assault at Hazie’s Leads to Strava Manager’s Firing
A shocking incident captured in a viral TikTok video depicted Shireen Afkari, a senior manager at Strava, engaging in a drunken assault at Hazie’s, an upscale San Francisco restaurant. The footage showed Afkari visibly intoxicated, verbally abusing, lunging at, and physically attacking restaurant staff before being forcibly removed. The confrontation began around 9 p.m. when Afkari and a male companion, appearing highly intoxicated, were verbally abrasive toward their server. Restaurant management intervened, removing cocktails and asking the couple to leave, which quickly escalated the situation into chaos.
The viral video clearly illustrates Afkari at the bar, yelling, swearing, and slurring at employees, accusing them of lying, and even striking the camera. Another angle reveals her attacking a male staff member before being taken to the ground. The altercation continued outside, where Afkari grabbed bartender Miguel Marchese by his hair, refusing to let go until he cleverly threw her phone away to distract her. Police subsequently arrived, arresting Afkari and booking her into San Francisco County Jail for public intoxication.
Afkari faced swift and severe consequences. Following the widespread circulation of the video, Strava, her employer, confirmed her termination, stating, “We don’t condone violence of any kind and this does not reflect the standards we expect of our team.” This incident serves as a stark cautionary tale, illustrating the significant risks of public intoxication and aggressive behavior, and highlighting the professional and legal repercussions that can arise from off-duty actions. Marchese's account also sheds light on the broader issue of abuse, including physical and verbal assaults, faced by hospitality workers, underscoring the challenges within the service industry and the crucial importance of accountability for one's conduct.
The incident at Hazie's has quickly turned into a trending topic, making it a notable example of a pop culture assault that sparks widespread debate.
