Diddy’s Prison Release: Sentence, Appeal, and Potential Reductions

Sean “Diddy” Combs was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, leading to a 50-month prison sentence determined in October 2025. The Bureau of Prisons initially projected his release date as May 8, 2028, from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, based on federal inmate records. However, this release date is subject to potential change due to various factors.

Combs' legal team is actively pursuing avenues to shorten his incarceration. They have requested his transfer to Fort Dix, a low-security federal correctional facility in New Jersey. If approved, this move could enable Combs to participate in the Residential Drug Abuse Program, a 9-12 month treatment offered by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Successful completion of this program has the potential to reduce his sentence by up to 12 months. Separately, a TMZ report in October 2024 suggested President Donald Trump was considering commuting Combs' sentence, but a White House official vehemently denied this the following day, dismissing it as “fake news,” despite TMZ standing by its story.

During his trial, Combs was acquitted of more severe charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, though prosecutors had argued for an 11-year sentence, while his defense sought no more than 14 months. Prior to his sentencing, Combs penned a letter to the judge, expressing regret and acknowledging past mistakes, stating, “I am so sorry for the hurt that I caused.” On October 20, 2025, his attorney, Alexandra Shapiro, filed a notice of appeal in Federal District Court, signaling their intent to challenge both his conviction and the prison sentence, with previous arguments suggesting the statute under which he was convicted might not apply.
