TikTok Star Madeleine White Faces Backlash Over Pink Eye Rave Attendance
TikTok influencer Madeleine White recently ignited a firestorm of online criticism after knowingly attending the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) in Orlando, Florida, while suffering from pink eye. The influencer, celebrating her 30th birthday, posted a now-viral TikTok on November 8, detailing her preparations for the music festival despite her visibly red eyes. She candidly told her followers, “I’m just going to cover it up with sparkles and a pair of sunglasses and call it a goddamn day,” as she applied makeup to conceal the condition.
White revealed she contracted conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye, from her husband, Andrew Fedyk, a DJ from Loud Luxury, who she claimed got it from green Halloween makeup. Her defense hinged on her alleged unawareness of the condition's contagious nature. “I really didn’t know that it was contagious,” she asserted, adding, “I thought he got it from the makeup. I didn’t know that I could get it. I was definitely nowhere near as cautious as I should’ve been with him.” This revelation quickly drew the ire of viewers, many of whom condemned her decision to attend a crowded rave with a highly transmissible illness, pointing out the public health risks involved. Comments like “Going out with pink eye is wild” flooded her post.
In a direct response, White pushed back against the criticism, suggesting a cultural disparity in how pink eye is perceived and managed. She retorted, “This is my first time hearing in my life you’re expected to stay home with conjunctivitis.. in UK we wash hands, don’t touch eyes and continue as normal.” She further elaborated on this point in a follow-up video on her secondary TikTok account, indicating that the UK treats conjunctivitis far less stringently, where she reportedly didn't even receive a day off school for it. Despite the widespread backlash and the inherent risks of spreading an infection in a large public gathering, White proceeded with her birthday festivities at EDC. She later shared photos on Instagram from the rave, still showing slight redness in her eyes, captioning the post, “30, flirty + in bed for the foreseeable future feeling very loved.” This incident highlights important discussions surrounding personal responsibility, public health, and differing cultural norms regarding common contagious illnesses.
Madeleine White's controversial choice to attend the pink eye rave has sparked significant pop culture backlash among fans and critics alike.
